MMORPG's

Mostly Men Online Role Playing Girls

or it's real meaning is:

Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game

I wouldn't say I'm an expert, but I've played a fair amount, and been invited to be a guest on a popular board gaming podcast (albeit by my brother) it's still my claim to fame :)

I've had a bash at:

Star Wars Galaxies
Horizons
Lineage II
Eve Online
Dungeons and Dragons Online
Warhammer Online - Age of Reckoning
City of Heroes
World of Warcraft (where you'll still find me)
Age of Conan

I've beta tested for some of these, but played all of the released versions of them. I will take some time to make comments on each (in the near future) so if you're considering a step into MMORPG's you have an idea about the games.

The ones I've played are mostly free ones. They can be ok, but lack the support of the big ones:

Guild Wars, but only till 20th level, as I didn't feel that I played often enough to pay
Fiesta
MapleStory until Hong Kong got a licence and I wasn't able to play on the US servers anymore :( Although quite simple I loved it, especially because it's one of the few games that my wife also likes and that we can play together.

In general I like the experience of sharing a game with thousands of other players. The problem is that if you are only an occasional player, it is extremely difficult to get into a good party. Also, if you don't have the time or the motivation to unravel the deep secrets of min-maxing your character, you quickly can become substandard compared to the many hard-core players. And finally hackers, cheaters and trolls...
